One School, One Book

One School, One Book!

We are so excited to be starting the celebration of One School, One Book!

One School, One Book is a program that takes place at schools all across the country. Schools choose a book to read all together and students read the book with their class, their family, their friends – you can even read with your pets!

Our entire school will read this book together - and that means everybody!  Each family is receiving a copy of the book on Monday.  The oldest sibling will be given the book to share with your family.

While we are reading the book, some exciting things are going to happen.  Our OSOB Parent Committee has planned some amazing surprises for students at school and at home!

You will see art displays, bulletin boards, and posters around school.  There will be interviews with guest speakers and special activities in the classrooms! There will be questions and prompts for conversation about the book during morning announcements, so make sure you have read up on each chapter.  There is also a calendar with guidance for reading and suggestions for fun activities. You can read along each night by listening to an audio recording of a mystery Rowayton staff reader.

The first book in a funny, heartfelt, and irresistible young middle grade series starring an unforgettable young boy on the autism spectrum.

For Bixby Alexander Tam (nicknamed Bat), life tends to be full of surprises—some of them good, some not so good. Today, though, is a good-surprise day. Bat’s mom, a veterinarian, has brought home a baby skunk, which she needs to take care of until she can hand him over to a wild-animal shelter.

But the minute Bat meets the kit, he knows they belong together. And he’s got one month to show his mom that a baby skunk might just make a pretty terrific pet.
